“We must be aware of the seriousness of the situation with the emergence of the terrorist Islamic State (IS) organization again and its threat to Iraqi cities and towns in order to join efforts for joint action and reject differences within the political process, and accelerate the formation of an Iraqi national government as soon as possible to address these risks surrounding Iraq and its people,” KDP statement read.
On Saturday, IS launched coordinated attacks in a remarkable escalation targeting security sites in Salahuddin Governorate, causing casualties.
Last April, IS militants launched attacks targeting military sites, security checkpoints, and energy facilities, with snipers, improvised explosive devices, and armed or suicide attacks.
The Ministry of Defense announced last month that 170 civilians and military personnel had been killed, along with 135 IS terrorists, during clashes and violence since last January.
In 2017, Iraq declared victory over IS by reclaiming all of its territory, which was estimated to be about a third of the country’s area invaded by IS in the summer of 2014.
