Kadhimi, Erdogan discuss attempts to fight coronavirus

<p style="text-align:left">The new Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi and the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed water shares, strengthening trade exchange, facilitating citizens' movement, and co-ordination to fight against Coronavirus crisis.

The press office of al-Kadhimi said in a statement on Friday evening, May 15. that he received a telephone call from Erdogan, the official Iraqi News Agency reported.
According to the statement, the Turkish president has congratulated the new Iraqi prime minister on the occasion of his election, and Kazemi, in his turn, thanked the Turkidh president.
The Turkish president also stressed his country's readiness to support Iraq in all political, security and economic fields, noting that he wants to visit Baghdad as soon as possible to discuss ways to strengthen ties within the framework of bilateral agreements and mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two neighboring countries.
The new Prime Minister emphasized that his country seeks to establish stronger relations with Turkey based on mutual trust and respect, adding that he would be happy to receive Erdogan in Baghdad and welcomes all steps to strengthen bilateral relations.
In the telephone conversation between the two leaders they also discussed ways to strengthen the process of trade and investment, the role of Turkish companies in the energy and reconstruction sectors in Iraq, ways to facilitate the movement of citizens between the two countries, and coordination in dealing with the crisis caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Iraqi parliament approved the new government plan last Thursday morning in an extraordinary session attended by the majority of representatives. It approved the candidates of 15 ministries from the 22 proposed cabinet posts.
