raqi Transportation Minister Nasser Hussein stated that none of the two Kurdish Region airports in Erbil, the capital, and Sulaimani send any of their income to Baghdad, Xendan news website reported.
He stated in a televised interview that according to a decision made during Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's term in 2013, the KRG budget share was not sent to the region as the region stopped short of paying its annual revenues to the central government while it was receiving its 17% of Iraq's annual budget.
He noted that the Kurdistan Regional airports are controlled by the central government in terms of providing security and issuing licenses.
The Iraqi Minister of Transportation further underscored that the revenues from the airports in Sulaimani and Erbil are not paid to the Iraqi Airways Organization, and no revenue has been given to the central government.
The Iraqi central government is also demanding oil revenues from the Kurdish region. In response to Erbil's failure to comply with its financial commitments and the 2019 budget law and relevant agreements, according to what Baghdad claims, the Iraqi Ministry of Finance has recently decided to cut off salaries of Kurdish Region’s employees.
Earlier, the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers announced that there was no agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government to make Baghdad pay the autonomous region’s employees and Erbil should set aside the employees' salaries from the regional budget.
No agreement has been reached between the KRG, the Ministry of Finance and the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers on May 5th, 2020, according to a document issued by the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
Earlier, the KRG sent a letter to Baghdad indicating 10 points about the halt of salaries of the KRG employees, and called on Baghdad to pay more than $384 billion in compensation for the 1963-2003 period.
