Javad Zarif, Barham Salih discuss bilateral ties, regional developments

<p style="text-align: left;">Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Iraqi President Barham Salih met on Sunday in Iraqi capital Baghdad where the two leading officials examined the issues of mutual ties.

During the meeting, the two sides explored avenues for boosting mutual cooperation and the recent regional and international issues, IRNA reported.

Prior to his meeting with Barham Salih, Zarif met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.

The press office of al-kadhimi issued a statement on Sunday afternoon, saying the PM welcomed Zarif and his accompanying delegation in Baghdad, according to the official Iraqi News Agency.

According to the statement, the Iraqi prime minister and the Iranian delegation discussed bilateral ties between the two stated and common interests in various fields.

During the meeting, al-Kadhimi stressed on the importance of bilateral relations between Iraq and Iran and developing it in various fields in the interest of the peoples of the two countries, as well as joint efforts to support the security and stability of the region.

Heading a high-level delegation, Zarif arrived in the Iraqi capital earlier on Sunday for a one-day visit and will then depart for Erbil.

Earlier, the Iranian foreign minister attended a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein after they had earlier met in the day.
