Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavuşoglu, who is in the country to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new President of the Dominican Republic, had a bilateral meeting with his American counterparty Mike Pompeo during the ceremony.
According to Haber 7, Çavuşoglu talked to his American counterpart about Turkey-US bilateral relations, the fight against the Corona virus, the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the recent remarks of US presidential candidate Joe Biden about Turkey.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Turkish Foreign Minister criticized Biden's recent remarks on Turkey: "We reject such impositional policies. Biden's remarks are ignorant statements as he has no knowledge of the Turkish people."
The New York Times published a video file of the US Democratic Presidential Candidate, Joe Biden, in which he has called for backing Kurds in Turkey and toppling the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan through elections.
According to the New York Times, the Donald Trump's rival Joe Biden released a statement last December in which he explained to the newspaper's editors that he was concerned about Erdogan's treatment of the Kurds in Turkey.
Biden stressed on the need to change the US approach to Turkey and supporting its opposition leaders. The Democratic nominee for next Fall's election says he is very concerned about Recep Tayyip Erdogan's approach to the Kurds, his military cooperation with Russia, and his access to US bases.
Biden underscored that support for the Turkish opposition leaders should pave the way for Erdogan's defeat, but through the elections, not a coup.
It should be noted that Çavuşolu also had a bilateral meeting with the Spanish foreign minister.
