Ezidi spiritual leader passes away at 87

<p style="text-align: left;">Head of the Ezidi General Affairs Directorate at the Kurdistan Regional Government&amp;rsquo;s (KRG) Endowment and Religious Affairs Ministry Khayri Buzani confirmed late on Thursday, October 1, that the Ezidi faith&amp;rsquo;s highest cleric, Baba Sheikh Khurto Hajji Ismail, has died of kidney complications at a hospital in Erbil.

Baba Sheikh, aged 87, was the Ezidis spiritual leader and supervisor of Lalish Temple, NRT reported.

Following his death, officials from the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and around the world took to social media to express their condolences to the Ezidi community, including Kurdistan President Nechirvan Barzani, and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, and Council of Representatives Speaker Muhammad al-Halbusi.
