All Kurdistani parties in favor of postponing election: Talabani

<p style="text-align:left">All political parties want the Kurdistan Region parliamentary election to be postponed, but no one dares to say so publicly, said Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Qubad Talabani.

The comments by Talabani came on Monday, August 6, during the opening ceremony of the new terminal of Sulaimani International Airport, which was also attended by Governor Haval Abu Bakir.
On Sunday, August 5, Lahur Talabani who leads the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's CTG (Counter Terror Group), said he is for the postponement of the scheduled September 30 parliamentary elections.
He expressed concerns that heightened political tension between the Kurdish parties that would arise from an election campaign would hinder efforts to achieve unity in Baghdad, NRT reported.
In May, KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani issued a decree that scheduled the Region&rsquo;s parliamentary election for September 30.
The election was postponed once before. Parliamentary and Presidential elections in the Kurdish region were due to take place on November 1, 2017, but were cancelled when tensions rose significantly after Iraqi forces retook Kirkuk and other disputed areas in mid-October.
