Turkish president and his wife test positive for COVID-19

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Erdogan said in a tweet that he and his wife tested for coronavirus after they had mild symptoms.
“The result of our COVID-19 test was positive,” Erdogan tweeted. “We learned it was Omicron variant.”
“We will continue our work at home. We look forward to your prayers,” he said.
On Friday, Turkish health ministry said it recorded 111,157 new coronavirus infections in 24 hours, its highest daily figure of the pandemic.
In late December, daily cases stood at about 20,000 but have since surged due to the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the coronavirus, according to Reuters.
