The media office of Abadi said on Sunday that Iraq's position on the US sanctions imposed on Iran stems from the general interest of Iraq.
"The position of Iraq towards these sanctions was not improvised or hasty, but was subjected to a study and accounts of the interests of Iraq and the Iraqis,” said aspokesman for Iraqi government, Saad al-Hadithi.
Abadi, however, is set to pay a visit to Turkey on Tuesday, August 13, according to Mehr news agency.
The media office of Iraqi PM said the cencelation of Abadi’s visit to Tehran is “due to of his busy schedule.”
Abadi's stance on US sanctions against Iran has been widely criticized by most Iraqi political parties as "unilateral."
