Joint KDP, PUK delegation is in Baghdad to discuss government formation

<p style="text-align: left;">A delegation of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is in Baghdad to hold talks with the federal political parties over the formation of the new Iraqi government.

Fazil Mirani, secretary of the KDP politburo, and his PUK counterpart, Mala Bakhtyar, are in Baghdad to represent their political parties during meeting with party officials, NRT eported.

Mirani and Bakhtyar are expected to meet with Nouri al-Maliki of State of Law and Hadi al-Amri of Fatih alliance, according to the report.

They will then meet with Sunni lists for talks on the same subject.

The two officials have already met with the Iraqi President and discussed the upcoming first session of parliament.

A high-level joint delegation of the winning lists from May's parliamentary election are paying an official visit to Erbil on Monday, August 27, for talks with the Kurdish political parties to try and form the largest legislative bloc.

The creation of a new cabinet has been delayed since May, when the results of the parliamentary election were disputed due to electoral fraud.
