Parliament is also expected to hold talks about whether to seek the Iraqi federal court’s views on the largest parliament bloc to form the new Iraqi government, NRT reported.
The reporter added strict security measures are underway inside and outside the parliament building.
The Council of Representatives held its first session following the May 12 parliamentary election on Monday but it failed to elect a speaker, which should have been the first step toward forming a new cabinet.
Chaired by eldest member of the parliament, Mohammad Ali Zinni, the first session was tabled until 11 a.m. on Tuesday after the Council of Representatives lost quorum on Monday afternoon.
As many as 317 lawmakers out of 329 attended the session.
During the session, the MPs who won seats in the election sworn in.
The session took about 3 hours with a one hour suspension.
Zinni said it would preside over Tuesday’s session after the two main competing political blocs claimed to hold a parliamentary majority.
