It came after the KDP disagreed with Barham Salih as the candidate of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), BasNews reported.
Maliki said in a statement made to Kurdistan 24 that Fuad Hussein would possibly win the race as he has the support of President Masoud Barzani.
“I wish Dr. Fuad Hussein success. We hope Kurdistan Region’s representative in Baghdad would be a strong one,” Maliki pointed out.
However, he stressed that his faction wishes that Kurds could unite and all agree on one candidate to preserve the Kurdish unity in Baghdad.
