Kurdish university professor receives White House award

<p style="text-align: left;">A Kurdish university professor recently completed a one-year fellowship as a part of the US State Department's prestigious Hubert H. Humphrey program.

Progfessor Shaho Saeed said in a post on his official page on Saturday (May 12) that he was awarded the fellowship last year and has now completed the program.

Humphrey Program provides the opportunity for promising young and mid-career professionals from designated countries like Iraq to pursue a year of non-degree graduate-level study, leadership development, and professional collaboration with their counterparts at institutions in the US.

It is part of the State Department's Fulbright Program and implemented by the Institute of International Education, NRT reported.

&ldquo;Thanks to the Government of U.S.A., I have been awarded the Hubert H. Humphrey certificate by the President &lsquo;Donald Trump&rsquo; and Secretary of State &lsquo;Mike Pompeo&rsquo;,&rdquo; Saeed wrote on Facebook.

&ldquo;This is considered the highest academic and professional award for international Fulbright participants.&rdquo;

Saeed&rsquo;s project was to develop critical thinking in education. He spent his fellowship year at Pennsylvania State University, where his field of study was educational administration, planning, and policy.

Saeed is an assistant professor of modern criticism and Arabic literature at the University of Human Development in Sulaimani. He was a member of the Kurdistan Parliament between 2009 and 2011.
