Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke to Barzani over the phone, according to the Turkey's presidential communications office, Anadolu news agency said in a reported.
The regional parliament of the Kurdish region on Tuesday elected Barzani president of the region.
Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) emerged as the largest bloc in parliament following elections last September with 45 seats.
