The Iraqi Security Media Cell said in a statement that an improvised explosive device had targeted the federal police in al-Saaduniya village in Kirkuk. The blast killed one federal police officer and wounded two others.
“Another bomb exploded in al-Asriya village in the same governorate, killing a civilian and wounding a federal police officer,” the statement read.
No group claimed responsibility for the attacks, but Islamic State (IS) militants are known to be active in the area, NRT reported.
Baghdad declared military victory over IS more than a year ago, but the group has not completely disappeared and sleeper cells have been fighting a guerrilla war against government forces.
