The group was led by Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Fatih Yildiz and Turkish Consul General in Erbil Hakan Karacay.
Barzani expressed his concern about Turkey’s recent airstrikes on targets inside the Region, which have killed six civilians since May, NRT reported.
The KRG premier called on all the sides to respect the sovereignty of the Kurdistan Region, referring both to Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The Turkish government is currently in the second phase of a military escalation designed to undermine the PKK’s ability to launch attacks on the Turkish military.
He also said he hoped that ties between the Region and Turkey will strengthen, especially in terms of trade and the economy.
Barzani also suggested to the delegation that their governments work to improve ease of travel between Turkey and the Region.
The Turkish ambassador to Iraq said that he also hoped for further development of relations between Turkey, the Kurdistan Region, and Iraq, once the KRG’s new cabinet begins its work.
