According to a report of seismography center affiliated to Tehran University Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 18:55 hours local time and in the depth of 8 km underground, IRNA reported.

The epicenter of the quake was registered at 7 km of Sarpol-e Zahab, 20 km of Qasr-e Shirin and 37 km Gilan-e Gharb.

There was no initial report on injuries or damage caused to infrastructure.

Since the November 12's earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale which claimed 620 lives and wounded 12,386 individuals in Kermanshah Province, to December 26 over 1,600 aftershocks have been registered in this region.

Iran is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, as it straddles several major fault lines that cover at least 90% of the country.
