Nechirvan Barzani promised Erbil won’t allow its soil to be used against Iran, official tells Kurdpress

<p style="text-align: left;">A leading official of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) stated that the regional government&amp;rsquo;s Premier Nechirvan Barzani promised, in his recent visit to Tehran, that Erbil won&amp;rsquo;t let the region&amp;rsquo;s borders to become a threat against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Barzani met some Iranian leading officials, including President Hassan Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and discussed Iraq and the region&rsquo;s developments as well as ties between Erbil and Tehran.

Abdullah Akrayee told Kurdpress in an inclusive interview that Barzani has assured the Iranian officials that the region&rsquo;s borders would not be used against Iran.

Akrayee said the atmosphere of the talks between the Kurdish PM and the Iranian officials were very positive, adding that the visit was very important and decisive for the region.

The meeting reiterated on boosting ties between Erbil and Tehran and Iranian officials voiced their readiness to ease disputes between the region and the Iraqi central government in Baghdad, he further said.

Akrayee underscored on preparing the ground for better ties between Iran and the Kurdistan region for investment.

According to Akrayee Barzani said in the meeting that the region has been fighting the Islamic State (IS) in the last 3 years and Erbil has failed to boost security of its borders and the PM promised the region would increase the security of the borders and would not let it to be used against Tehran.
