Kurdistan Region Parliament condemns Turkish invasion on Afrin

<p style="text-align:left">The Parliament of Kurdistan Region issued a statement on Tuesday, January 30, condemning a military operation launched by Turkey ten days ago against the Kurdish-held Afrin in Syria.

&ldquo;We denounce the Turkish invasive attack against Afrin and call on the United Nations and International Community to immediately take action,&rdquo; the Parliament said in a statement.

The Change Movement (Gorran) faction in parliament boycotted on the session in protest of lack of &ldquo;concrete actions&rdquo; against Turkish attack on Afrin.

Head of Gorran faction, Birzo Majid, said during a press conference that they left the session because the parliament did not make a decision to commit the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to assist Afrin.

According to NRT he said the parliament should have taken action through decrees to commit the KRG to open its border points towards Rojava or Kurdish-controlled areas in Syria and provide Afrin with financial, logistical, political and diplomatic assistances,.

The Kurdistan Parliament said in the statement that &ldquo;Turkey should respect basis for the international law and neighborly relations, we call on Turkey to immediately stop launching attacks.&rdquo;

It also called for the border points between Rojava and Kurdistan Region to reopen so the needed assistance can be transferred to Afrin.

Turkey launched operation "Olive Branch" on January 20 against the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in Afrin, supporting Syrian opposition fighters with ground troops and air strikes.
