Adviser to the Kurdish-led administration in northern Syria, Badran Jia Kurd told Reuters that the Syrian army will deploy along some border positions and could enter Afrin region within the next two days.
“We don’t know to what extent these understandings will last because there are sides that are not satisfied and want to make [the understandings] fail,” he added.
Jia further said the agreement was military and that no political arrangements had been made yet.
“When it comes to the political and administrative matters in the region, it will be agreed upon with Damascus in the later stages through direct negotiations and discussions.”
Meanwhile, Firat News Agency reported that the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Syrian government have reached an agreement for the deployment of some troops of Syrian army in the Afrin region to repel the Turkish offensive.
Senior YPG and Syrian army officials held talks near the city of Aleppo few days ago, the agency reported.
YPG has said earlier that they would have “no problem” if the regime government intervened on their side to help push back an offensive by Turkey in the Afrin region in northwestern Syria.
