The statement came just hours after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the start of operations in Shingal, northern Iraq.
“The situation in Nineveh, Sinjar (Shingal) and the border areas is under the control of Iraqi security forces and there is no reason for troops to cross the Iraqi border into those areas,” it said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Iraqi Defense Ministry said the Iraqi government would not stand idly by if military intervention was carried out by any foreign troops.
Shiite Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), known as Hashid al-Shaabi, reaffirmed that there was no movement by Turkish army in and around Sinjar.
Sources in Sinjar also said there was no unusual military activity in the area on Sunday, Reuters reported.
Earlier on Sunday, Erdogan said Turkey had begun operations in Iraq’s Shingal region.
