HPG claims killing of 20 Turkish forces in Kurdistan Region

<p style="text-align: left;">A media outlet close to the People's Defense Forces (HPG) claimed on Monday, August 26, that it had killed twenty Turkish soldiers and wounded dozens of others in an attack in the Kurdistan Region the previous day.

According to NRT the statement described the ambush as taking place from three directions and said that the HPG would continue to resist the Turkish military in the Region.

The HPG is the armed wing of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The attack took place in the Heftanin area of Duhok governorate.

Turkish state-owned Anadolu Agency reported that three Turkish soldiers had been killed and seven others wounded in an attack in the Kurdistan Region.

The Turkish military has a number of bases inside the Kurdistan Region and routinely carries out airstrikes and artillery bombardments against suspected PKK targets, but their frequency has increased since Ankara launched &ldquo;Operation Claw&rdquo; in May, as have civilian casualties.

On Saturday, the Turkish government announced that it had launched the third phase of the operation.
