In a meeting chaired by PUK First Deputy Secretary-General Kosrat Rasul and Iraqi President Barham Salih, the committee in charge of organizing the congress presented a report and the party decided to move forward, Sheikh Omar said.
At the moment, the congress will begin on December 7.
There had been rumors this week that the congress may be delayed, with a member of the PUK Politburo telling NRT on condition of anonymity that it was very likely for the congreds to be delayed.
Separately, member of PUK politburo Adnan Mofti said on Friday following the meeting that there was still a chance that there could be a delay.
The PUK has not held an all-party congress since 2010 and plans to hold one have been put off for years, amid fears that it would prompt infighting within the notoriously factional party.
It will be the first since the illness and death of long-time party leader Jalal Talabani, who was seen as a unifying figure for the PUK.
