During their meeting, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Jeffery discussed the latest developments in Iraq, Syria, and the Middle East.

The KRG prime minister, for his part, thanked the United States for its continued support for the Kurdistan Region.

Barzani said that Islamic State (IS) is “still a great threat to the security in Iraq,”adding that cooperation with the international community is necessary to counter the threats posed by the militant group.

The US envoy, who is also the Trump administration's Syria envoy, arrived in the Kurdistan Region on Saturday morning.

IS militants attacked the Peshmerga’s Third Brigade in Kulajo town on Wednesday night. Three members of the Peshmerga were killed and two others were wounded.

The village was the site of a deadly attack last week in which three Asayish were killed, including a commander.
