Demirtas to draw for satirical journal

<p style="text-align:left">Selahattin Demirtas, the jailed former leader of Turkey&amp;rsquo;s pro-Kurdish opposition Peoples&amp;rsquo; Democratic Party (HDP), has turned his hand to drawing for the satirical cartoon magazine Leman, Diken reported on Wednesday.

The magazine announced that Demirtas was joining on the first page of its current issue.
Over the three years since Turkish authorities arrested him for a range of terror-related charges, Demirtas has written two short story collections and shared drawings he has made.
The Turkish government jailed Demirtas during a period of emergency rule in November 2016, accusing him of links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers&rsquo; Party (PKK), which has waged an armed struggle for Kurdish self-rule in Turkey since 1984.
The government has refused to comply with a ruling from the European Court of Human Rights demanding Demirtas&rsquo;s release.
The Kurdish politician was handed a four-year-and-eight-month sentence for terrorism propaganda last year, but faces dozens of other charges carrying combined sentences that could exceed 140 years.
