Turkey operation against PKK in Iraq is to boost Erdogan power: expert

<p style="text-align: left;">A political expert on Turkish issues believes that the country&amp;rsquo;s operation against the Kurdistan Workers&amp;rsquo; Party (PKK) in Iraq is n attempt by the government in Ankara to boost the power of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and weaken his political rivals.

Jim Kerry told Geopolitical Alert website that Erdogan is seeking to boost his power in the operation against the PKK.

Ankara officials have stated that Turkish army has started an extensive operation in Kurdistan Region of Iraq and is seeking to control Qandil Mountain, the main base of the PKK.

Kerry told Sputnik reporter that Erdogan conducted operation against the PKK in all elections in Turkey in order to achieve his goals. Adding that the PKK has turned into Erdogan&rsquo;s eternal scapegoat, particularly the PKK has ties with Kurdish forces in Syria.
