First case of coronavirus identified in Erbil

<p style="text-align: left;">The Kurdistan Regional Government&amp;rsquo;s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced late on Friday, March 6, that the first case of coronavirus had been identified in Erbil, bringing the total number of cases in the Region to nine.

In a statement, the ministry said that the newest patient was a 33-year-old woman, who is in stable condition and receiving medical treatment.

It was not immediately clear how the patient had contacted coronavirus or whether they had recently been in Iran, where there is a serious outbreak of the disease.

Until now, all identified cases had been in Sulaimani governorate, NRT reported.

On Wednesday, Regional authorities announced that an elderly mullah had died after contracting the virus, likely making him the only fatality so far. The federal health ministry in Baghdad disputed the cause of death, saying that it was because of an underlying health issue. Two members of his family later tested positive for coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Iraq reported five new coronavirus cases in Baghdad and one case in Karbala, the state news agency said quoting health ministry. It also reported another death in Karbala.
