Iraqi president calls for boosting effort to confront coronavirus

<p style="text-align: left;">In a speech late on Monday, March 23, President Barham Salih stressed the need for cooperation in the face of the worldwide coronavirus crisis.

&ldquo;The pandemic has become a serious challenge to the entire world and requires the cooperation of all countries, international institutions, and peoples to ensure the health and safety of all humanity.&rdquo;

&ldquo;We will pass this crisis together,&rdquo; Salih said.

In an updated on Monday, the federal health ministry said that 266 people tested positive for the virus in Iraq. Sixty-two have recovered and were sent home, 23 have died, and the remainder is still under observation.

Salih also praised the efforts of the Ministry of Health and Iraq&rsquo;s medical and public health workers.

He said that he had been working in close coordination with Minister of Health and head of the Coronavirus Crisis Cell Jaafar Sadiq Allawi, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, and WHO Representative for Iraq Dr. Adham Ismail.
