"We no longer need US combat troops in Iraq," said al-Kadhimi ahead of his trip to the United States to meet with Joe Biden, adding that "We need information support, training, advice and capacity building."

"We need intelligence support, training, consulting and capacity building," al-Kadhimi said.
"We are looking for a strategic and long-term relationship," the Iraqi prime minister said of his expectations of the level of Iraq's relations with the United States.
Al-Kazemi also said "Iranians have influence in Iraq, but some of that influence is due to their concerns about the United States and its role in Iraq. We need to reassure Iranians that our relationship with the United States is based on common interests. Iraq must pursue its interests first and foremost."
