Syrian Kurds need to have a national strategy, official tells Kurdpress

A member of the Syrian Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP-s) political office stated that the Kurds in the country are in a sensitive political condition and they need to develop a national strategy for their future.

Pointing to a recent agreement between the Syria Kurdistan National Council (ENKS) and the Syrian Kurdish Patriotic Union, Muslim Mohammad told KurdPress in an interview that “there are two concepts of tactics and strategies in politics. We hope that the agreement between the Patriotic Union and the ENKS will be a strategic agreement.”

“We must learn from past experiences. Formerly, the agreements of Erbil I and Erbil II, as well as Dohuk agreement had been signed between the two sides and nothing else will benefit the nation other than the deals,” he stressed.

“If we take a short look at the situation, we are the representative of the Kurds in Syria in both the international forces and the regional forces, and also by UN Resolution 2254 we are a part of the Syrian opposition coalition. The other side, the Democratic Union Party (PYD), is powerful both militarily and economically. Accordingly, under these conditions, the two sides could tactically take for positive steps for Syrian Kurdistan,” the official continued to say.

Syria and the region are transitioning from a critical situation, said the member of the KDP-s political office about the future of negotiations, underscoring that “We have to benefit from the past experience and the agreement that we have had with each other to develop a strategy, because we're out of time, and if we're not really united and do not plan a national strategy, we're going to suffer.”

Muslim Mohammed ultimately noted that: “Earlier, we made a political agreement in Erbil and Dohuk which was is a positive step, but we now need practical actions, and we will not achieve any success until we solve the problems practically.
