US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) issued a third warning about possible Turkey military operation against Syrian Kurds.
In a note published in Newsweek magazine, two US officials of the commission warned that Turkey, deploying troops and combat equipment on its border with northern Syria, plans to occupy another area under Syrian Kurdish control in its third move.
In 2018, Turkey seized the Kurdish region of Afrin in northwest Syria and occupied another area under the control of Syrian Kurds in October 2019, the US body noted, adding that Turkey affiliated forces have continued to harass Kurds, Christians and Yazidis since then.
The commission has called on the U.S. to stop Turkish expansionist measures in northern Syria and to pressure Ankara to withdraw from Kurdish areas of Syria.
It has also asked the U.S. president Donald Trump, and other senior officials of the country to recognize the Kurdish administration in northern Syria, and also asked Washington to develop its ties with Syrian Kurds to prevent Turkey's continued expansionist efforts.
The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) also called on Washington to involve the Syrian Kurds in Syrian peace talks and ask Turkey to withdraw its troops from northern Syria within a timetable.
