According to the website of the University of Missouri, the Department of Foreign Languages of the university has recently added Kurdish (Sorani) to its collection of foreign languages. Those interested can register online for Fall semester.
According to the Kurdish language classes’ enrollment guidelines, students who receive basic Kurdish language and culture education in this course will receive three hours of instruction each week, and the entire course will last 15 weeks.
In addition to enrolling Missouri students, the university enrolls other interested students, but based on initial information, tuition fees would be received possibly.
The Kurdish language teaching course will include conversation, familiarity with Kurdish culture and Kurdish (Sorani) writing.
The Kurdish course will be offered online. The instructor plans to arrange the best time for Zoom sessions with students and then record the live sessions and upload the videos, so that anyone who cannot attend that lesson live can view the videos.
The course meets roughly 45 hours. Students can choose to get the three university credits and a grade for the course or take the class for no grade as an auditor. The Kurdish course begins August 17 and ends December 10. The university hopes that the course will be permanent and continue to offer the course, if students keep enrolling and if the teacher is interested in teaching.
