Trump says Biden can’t stand up to Erdogan

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden would not be able to stand up to the “world-class chess players,” such as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“You’re dealing with people that are very sharp. You’re dealing with world-class chess players in the leaders of these countries. I know them all. We do very well with all of them, [President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan of Turkey,’’ Trump told “Fox & Friends” on Monday. “You can’t have a guy that doesn’t know where he is.’’

Trump is ramping up criticism of Biden, his rival in the U.S. presidential elections set to take place on Nov. 3, stating that the 77-year-old Democratic candidate is not competent to hold office. Trump is 74.

Trump also said Biden was “shot’’ and is afraid to leave his basement due to fear of speaking.

The U.S. president’s statements follow a controversial video of Biden calling for the removal of Erdogan, which set off a furor in Turkey over the weekend.

Calling Erdogan an “autocrat,” Biden advocated that Washington “embolden” his opponents to defeat him at the ballot box in a December 16 meeting with editors of the New York Times.

Trump also told Fox News that world leaders called him last week, asking him to deal with Turkey’s Erdogan.

“You’re the only one that he’ll listen to. He doesn’t listen to us,’’ Trump quoted world leaders as saying.

When he asked if this was due to his role as the leader of the United States, world leaders responded by saying it was “because of your personality,’’ Trump said.

“I don't like to say this publicly... I get along with him. He listens,’’ Trump said.
