There are only a few days left until the US presidential election, and one of the issues that the next US administration is dealing with is the Kurdish issue, given its interaction with the Kurds in Iraq and Syria.
In an article, Michael Arizanti, a researcher at RAN Europe, discusses the challenges facing the next US president (Donald Trump or Joe Biden). He called the Middle East issue, including the Kurdish issue, one of the most important issues facing the next US administration.
Arizanti, in an article published in the EU Reporter, believes that the Syrian Kurds feel that the United States has left them alone. However, it is possible that the next US administration will repair the damaged alliance with the Kurds.
Michael Arizanti believes that the US government should use the policy of carrot and stick against the Kurds, and giver more autonomy to the Syrian Kurds and in return ask them to sever their ties with the PKK.
The researcher stressed the US should continue its support for the Kurds in Iraq and Syria, which he believes will help to the stability and unity in the two countries.
He stressed that US mistreatment of the Syrian Kurds and the friendly relationship between Donald Trump and Recep Tayyip Erdogan are among the obstacles on rebuilding the US State Department strategy.
