Iraqi forces destroy ISIS hideouts in north of Baghdad

Iraqi forces destroyed three Islamic State (ISIS) hideouts in north of Baghdad, the military said on Sunday.

Intelligence units and the Iraqi military launched an operation to target ISIS strongholds and sources in al-Tarmiyah district, Iraq’s security media cell said in a statement.
The Iraqi forces find three hideouts and explosive devices during the operation, it added.
“The intelligence agency is moving forward to clear the areas of criminal gangs and prevent them from carrying out their malicious intentions,” it said.
Islamic State controlled roughly a third of Iraq between 2014 and 2017. Iraqi forces and Kurdish troops backed by U.S.-led Coalition forces as well as Shia militias defeated the militant group in 2017, but its members still roam areas of northern Iraq and northeastern Syria.
