Abdul Rahman Apo, a member of the Central Committee of the Syrian Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK.S), said in an interview with Kurdpress about the situation in the Syrian Kurdish city of Afrin: "Afrin is in a very bad situation. Assassination, torture, imprisonment and extortion have become daily issues in the region, and the situation is getting worse every day."

Turkey has strongly pursued a policy of demographic change, replacing 792,000 Arabs and Turkmen in the region. Turkey's goal was to divide Syrian Kurdistan and drive the Kurds away from the White Sea.

"There are twenty-seven militant groups in the region that are not under the command of the Syrian opposition coalition, but it is the coalition that is under the control of these groups," he said.

He added: "Turkey sought to occupy Afrin and other areas, and the existence of the PKK was the only excuse for the legitimacy of this aggression and occupation."

In response to the question that the Kurdish Patriotic Council is also part of the Syrian opposition coalition, the member of the Central Committee of the Syrian Kurdistan Democratic Party explained why this council allows such events: "We are part of the opposition coalition, which is present at international meetings. But we are not part of the military actions and inhumane behavior of armed groups and we have no force within them.

He added: "No Kurds are inside these military groups that are now present in Afrin. Many of our forces are in prison of these groups in Afrin. Our offices are located in Afrin, but they operate invisibly.

He said: "The Kurds are living in very bad conditions and the population change is so severe that it can be said that there are no Kurds left in Afrin."
