The purpose of the meeting of a number of military commanders in Baghdad with Bafel Talabani, the head of the Patriotic Union, was to equip borders and the border protection regiment.
According to Sharpers, Bafel Talabani traveled to Baghdad last week to meet with a number of military and security commanders in the Green Zone and held a meeting with senior Iraqi military and security officials.
"This meeting was aimed at congratulating and getting to know the commanders who have held positions in the new Iraqi government," Col. Marivan Mohammad, the commander-in-chief of the 2nd Peshmerga support forces, said about the reason behind holding the meeting.
The commander further said: "We requested an increase in the number of border protection forces, especially another border regiment, from the Iraqi government, to further protect the country's borders, as well as an urgent request for the formation of joint military forces to cover the legal vacuum between the Peshmerga and the army in the disputed areas. We made this request."
About the two protection regiments assigned to the border areas and how they are divided in these areas, Colonel Marivan added: "These two regiments are divided from Xaneqin to around Mosul."
He also pointed out that the working methods and cooperation of these forces with the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army are not known, but one of these regiments has been determined for axis one to four and the other regiment for the rest of the axes. Their salaries and other requirements are provided through the ministry.
