Resolving crisis between Baghdad, Erbil big priority for U.S.: advisor

<p style="text-align: left;">Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster, the U.S. National Security Advisor said the U.S. is &amp;ldquo;committed to the success of the Kurds in Iraq,&amp;rdquo; at the Jamestown Foundation&amp;rsquo;s 11th Annual Terrorism Conference on December 13.

&ldquo;Resolving the crisis, the problem between the Kurdistan Regional Government and Iraq is a big priority for President Trump, Secretary Tillerson and the whole team,&rdquo; he says.

According to NRT he reminded his audience that the U.S. has been helping the Kurds since 1991 to prevent atrocities and brutality by the Saddam Hussein regime.

&ldquo;See what happened,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;You see the growth of these beautiful cities like Sulaimani, Erbil and Dohuk, and the return of populations to them.&rdquo;

McMaster repeated, &lsquo;the U.S. wants to see a strong and united Iraq.&rsquo;

Keeping Iraq strong and not vulnerable to what he called the influence of Iran depends on reducing tensions between the Kurdish region and the Iraq government and is an important component of U.S policy in the region he said on Wednesday and in previous speeches.
