British parliament blames foreign ministry over Kurds in Iraq and Syria

The UK Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee blamed the country’s policies over Kurds in Iraq after October 16, 2017 events in the country and Turkey’s attacks in the Syrian Kurdish town of Afrin.

The committee held a meeting last month and listened to the foreign ministry’s reports about London’s policies towards the Kurds in Iraq and Syria. The committee released its detailed reports and blamed UK policies towards the Kurds, particularly after the referendum of independence by the Kurds in Iraq, stating that the ministry did not have a lot to say.

The committee also blamed FM Boris Johnson’s office for stopping short of a proper reaction to Turkey’s Olive Branch Operation into Afrin and backing Ankara’s right for conducting military action.

The parliament has also warned the Kurds in Iraq could follow independence due to UK’s unsuitable reactions to the developments in Iraq, calling on the foreign ministry to play a better role in order to end or lessen tensions, in Syria in particular.
