<p style="text-align: left;">Militants from the Islamic State (IS) attacked units of the Iraqi army in the districts of Hawija and Khanaqin on Thursday night, April 19.

IS launched an attack on the Zap regiment of the Iraqi army in Hawija west of Kirkuk, NRT reported, adding that Iraqi army deployed more troops to the area and clashes lasted a few hours

Three IS militants died in self-detonated explosions and two others were killed by the Iraqi army. Casualties for Iraqi army&rsquo;s Zap regiment remained unclear.

Meanwhile, another group of Islamic State militants attacked a base of Iraqi army in the district of Khanaqin in Diyala province, the report said.

The Iraqi army responded drove the militants from the area following clashes, a member of the Diyala provincial council Zahir Tahir told NRT on Friday. No casualties were reported.

Despite fall of its caliphate, IS remnants still intermittently launch attacks against the Iraqi army in the country, specifically in Hawija.
