Muqtada Sadr calls for protests against presence of US troops in Iraq

<p style="text-align:left">Iraqi Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr on Tuesday, January 14, called for protests by million Iraqis against the presence of US troops in Iraq. Sadr said in a message on Twitter that the Iraq&amp;rsquo;s space, land and territory &amp;ldquo;are violated by the invading troops.

&ldquo;Soldiers of God and soldiers of nation hold peaceful and united protests of a million against the presence of US troops in Iraq,&rdquo; he stated.
According to NRT Sadr called on the Iraqis to decide and not to delay to participate in the protests against the US troops.
The Council of Representatives approved a legislation that calls for the end of the presence of foreign troops in Iraq after a US strike assasinated a top Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi Muhandis on January 3.
The decision brought international concern. The US State Department said the US was disappointed in the decision.
&ldquo;While we await further clarification on the legal nature and impact of today&rsquo;s resolution, we strongly urge Iraqi leaders to reconsider the importance of the ongoing economic and security relationship between the two countries and the continued presence of the Global Coalition to Defeat IS,&rdquo; spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a statement on Sunday.
US President Donald Trump said that if Iraq asked US forces to leave and it was not done on a friendly basis, &ldquo;we will charge them sanctions like they&rsquo;ve never seen before ever.&rdquo;
