“Unfortunately, the number of infected people with the coronavirus is on the rise in the Kurdistan Region, especially in Sulaimani,” Barzani said in a statement.
“The reason for that is the people who are not cooperating with the ministries and authorities by following the regulations. The ability of the Kurdistan Region in dealing with the outbreak is limited,” he continues.
According to NRT Barzani said “If more people are infected, then problems will increase and casting blame will not solve the situation.”
So far, 54 cases have been recorded in the Region. Thirteen people have recovered from COVID-19, which is the disease caused by the coronavirus, and one person has died from it.
“No personal benefit is worth endangering the population and your own lives,” Barzani told the people of the Kurdistan Region, adding that the government will take serious measures against those who break regulations and “play with people’s lives.”
“Everyone should follow the regulations with a responsible sense to protect their own and their fellow citizens lives. Stay home in these turbulent times and avoid contact with other people,” he added.
Sulaimani’s attorney general office said on Sunday that anyone that does not follow regulations and will face the court.
“Follow the regulations of the Sulaimani Health Directorate and stay at home for your own, your families’, and the general public’s safety,” it said in a statement.
“Anyone that does not follow the regulations and is infected with the virus and infects other people either on purpose or not will face the court.”
