At least ten PMF fighters died in the attack, including eight from the 35th Brigade and one from the 41st Brigade, alongside several dozen wounded. Another was killed in Tel Al Thahab, NRT reported
The Iraqi Air Force deployed to the area to assist in the tracking of IS militants following the attack.
Organizations and analysts who track IS attacks say that there has been a noticeable uptick in activity in Iraq and Syria recent weeks, likely in an attempt to take advantage of the disruption caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
On April 28, IS militants attacked the local headquarters of Iraq’s intelligence service in Kirkuk.
