Late on Wednesday the Iraqi parliament convened to vote on Kadhimi’s cabinet after months of political deadlock in Iraq. It approved 15 nominees on Kadhimis list of ministers.
In a short statement on Twitter only minutes after the end of the parliamentary session, the new prime minister of Iraq thanked the factions which helped him in forming the new government, BasNews reported.
“My cabinet has earned the parliament’s support and we will work to earn the trust and support of the Iraqi people. I am grateful to those who worked with us to form the government,” Kadhimi said.
“I urge all political actors to come together around a national program to serve Iraq's interests,” he added.
The parliament, however, rejected five nominees on Kadhimi’s list of ministers, and it postponed the vote on two undecided ministerial posts.
