Erdogan “hoped that this new government brings prosperity to the people of Iraq and the region,” Kadhimi’s office said in a statement.
He also “expressed his full confidence in the government’s success in its mission during this difficult period that the entire world is going through,” referring to the coronavirus pandemic, NRT reported.
“Turkey supports Iraq’s unity and development and wants to strengthen relations between the two countries, in order to serve the interests of the two friendly neighbors,” the statement added.
In recent years, Iraq and Turkey have had significant disagreements over a number of issues, including continuing Turkish airstrikes against targets within Iraq and over water rights.
