Iraqi PM will resolve Erbil-Baghdad rifts, a KRG delegation visits Baghdad soon: official

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi has promised to solve the ongoing disputes between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government over the budget and oil revenues, Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Bashir Haddad said on Wednesday, May 20.

Haddad said during a press conference that “soon a delegation from the Kurdistan Region will head to Baghdad in order to discuss the decisions reached by the [joint] councils and committees,”
According to NRT Haddad speculated “Kadhimi promised to solve all of the problems and we have hope that he will send the salaries of the employees of the Kurdistan Region before Eid al-Fitr,”
On April 16, the federal Council of Ministers froze budget transfers to the KRG after patience ran out with Erbil’s failure to live up to its obligations under the 2019 federal budget law, in particular its refusal to send oil to Baghdad for export.
