Michael Flynn, former national security advisor to the Trump government, was charged with lying to the FBI in 2017 and confessed to his crime. He was accused of secret contact with Russia's ambassador to the United States and possible Moscow's link to the U.S. election. However, the US Justice Department has dropped the charge.

Some US media, however, believe what matters with the issue of Flynn, and has not been addressed in the court, is his relationship with the Turkish government led by Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Flynn’s role in bringing the Trump government closer to Turkey in some cases like Kurds and Fatah Gulan.

The Progressive magazine blamed Flynn as being a Turkey agent in the White House. Michael Flynn received $530,000 from Turkish businessman in 2016 to exert influence in the Trump government in favor of Turkey and against the Kurds.

Steven E. Cook, a researcher on Middle East issues, told the Progressive that the U.S. community has mostly forgotten Flynn ties with Turkey. People do not know that Flynn's relationship with Turkey is beyond what they know.

The magazine has also noted that a group affiliated with Flynn signed a contract with a Turkish businessman close to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2016, after which preparations made for a meeting of some senior Turkish officials with U.S. officials.

Steven E. Cook noted that, for instance, Flynn wrote an article a few years ago in the Hill newspaper and blamed Fathullah Gulen in a way as if the sentences had been written in Ankara.

Some experts told the magazine that Flynn's relationship with Turkey has never been raised in the charges against him and possibly it won’t be raised ever.

CNN, in a 2017 report, noted that General Flynn, like Turkey, opposed arming Syrian Kurds in order to reclaim the IS controlled regions in Syria and it was probably due to the payment that Turkey made to Flynn.

Mike Pence, a Trump Deputy, has stated that he would be happy with Flynn's return to the Cabinet.

In a series of tweets about Flynn, U.S. President Donald Trump also called him a hero. Some experts have predicted his likely return to the White House.
