Shortly before Turkey's Kurdish invasion of Syria in October 2019, US President Donald Trump pulled out nearly 1,500 US troops from Kurdish-controlled areas and paved the way for Turkey attacks on Syrian Kurds.
There are currently between 500 and 600 U.S. troops in Syria, with most deployed in oil-rich areas controlled the control of the Syrian Kurds in the northeast.
The American military magazine, Military.com, has asked for the return of the remaining troops from Syria.
Citing brief confrontations between US and Russian forces in Kurdish-controlled areas, the magazine has warned that brief clashes between American and Russian troops could turn into a full-scale battle if the US military continues to be in the Kurdish-controlled areas.
The magazine noted that the reason behind the presence of American forces in Syria was to fight against the IS, stressing that the war against the IS over and it is no longer a serious threat, so it is better for the remaining US forces to withdraw from Syria.
The U.S. military paper stressed that the continued presence of U.S. troops in Syria does not have any economic interests for Washington and that the U.S. should not engage in Syria's problems. Therefore, it would be better for Donald Trump to withdraw US troops from the Kurdish-controlled areas before they could be killed by a tension escalation.
