According to the Washington the actual number of US troops in Syria, including in Kurdish-controlled areas of Syria, is higher than previously reported.
Despite President Donald Trump's decision in 2019 to reduce the number of American troops in Syria, 750 of them are still in the country, the newspaper wrote.
The paper noted that the United States ultimately wants Syrian Kurdish forces to take the initiative to fight against the IS and stabilize northeastern Syria.
However, Christopher Meyer, head of the anti-IS forces in the US Department of Defense, has warned of the IS resurgence in Syria. "We are facing a serious challenge about the IS," he told a video conference of the Atlantic Council Think Tank.
He also noted that the United States, Russia and the Syrian central government are attempting to control and use the Kurdish-controlled oil resources in northern Syria, calling it a serious issue.
