"Some people are happy, because it is not unlikely for the United States to withdraw from Syrian Kurdistan and east of the Euphrates, since the US presence is not because of the Kurds and Kurdish-Kurdish talks. The US would not put in danger its relations with countries in the region; in particular, it does not endanger its ties with Turkey for staying in the east of the Euphrates," Shalal Gaddo, leader of the Kurdish Democratic Left Party in Syria and a member of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) told Kurdpress in an interview.
Responding to a Kurdish question about the situation of the Kurds, especially the Kurdish-Kurdish talks, if the US withdraws from Syria, Mr. Gaddo stated that "the US does not remain in the east of the Euphrates forever, and the US presence in Syria is for the sake of securing its own interests, and not for the sake of the Kurds and the Kurdish-Kurdish negotiations.
He added: "since the US elections, which is almost eight months, the Kurdish-Kurdish talks have stopped. In the last few months of [the former US President Donald] Trump era, these talks started, but now we see that the [US President Joe] Biden administration is not serious about continuing the talks. If the US wants so, the negotiations would resume in a day.
"The withdrawal of the United States is a great danger and it is not wise [for Washington] to withdraw all its forces from the region, but the United States is not permanently in the region and also a number of countries in the region are against its presence in the region," Mr. Gaddo went on to say.
The leader of the Kurdish Democratic Left Party in Syria stated: "I do not think the United States will jeopardize its relations with countries in the region, especially Turkey, for its presence in east of the Euphrates."
Shalal Gaddo underlined that "The US presence in Syria and cooperation with the SDF was due to the war against the ISIS, and if the ISIS does not exist any longer, it is not unlikely that the US will leave Syria immediately, as it did in Afghanistan, as we have seen how the Taliban are conquering this country."
The member of the General Council of the Syrian Opposition Coalition said: "Some Kurds are happy [with the US presence in Syrian Kurdistan]. It is not too far away for the United States to leave Syrian Kurdistan and east of the Euphrates, because the US presence is not for the Kurds and Kurdish-Kurdish talks.
